Format Your Spreadsheet
Open your spreadsheet (Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers, etc.) and make sure the first row has column names. Each row after that is one item.
Your spreadsheet just needs two columns to get started. We recommend a few more for best results.
The name of the box or container. Rows with the same name are grouped together.
The name of the item inside the box.
Where the box is stored (e.g., "Garage", "Attic"). Boxes with the same location are grouped together.
A short description of the item to help you find it later.
How many of this item. Defaults to 1 if left blank.
Example spreadsheet:
| Box Name | Location | Item Name | Description | Quantity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kitchen Box 1 | Garage | Plates | Dinner plates | 8 |
| Kitchen Box 1 | Garage | Bowls | Cereal bowls | 6 |
| Books | Attic | Harry Potter Set | Complete series | 1 |
In this example, "Plates" and "Bowls" end up in the same box called "Kitchen Box 1", stored in the "Garage" location.
